The Armstrong HLAR Series High Leverage Air/Gas Vents are developed especially for venting gases from low specific gravity fluids at high pressures. They use standard Armstrong forged steel bodies with very high leverage air relief mechanisms. Available with screwed, socketweld, or flanged connections.

Models 2313-HLAR, 2316-HLAR, 2413-HLAR, and 2415-HLAR are also available with cast T-316 stainless steel bodies and all-stainless steel internals. Consult factory for details.

Sour Gas Service

Forged steel and stainless steel traps can be modified to resist hydrogen sulfide stress corrosion. These modifications involve annealing the float, which will reduce the maximum working pressure of the float to about half its normal value. Consult Armstrong Application Engineering for allowable working pressures.

Important Note for Installation

The float might be blocked with a fixing device (rod, metal thread or polystyrene) to avoid damages during transportation. Make sure the float is free before installing the liquid drainer/air vent.

Connections and Installation

Armstrong Forged Steel High Leverage Ball Float Air/Gas Vents are available in two main configurations:

  • 2 Connections: Bottom Inlet - Top Outlet
  • 3 Connections: Side Inlet - Top Gas Outlet - Bottom Liquid Outlet

Possible connections include screwed, socketweld, or flanged. For models 2313-HLAR, 2314-HLAR, 2315-HLAR, and 2316-HLAR, only the bottom flange is machined directly into the air vent's body.

Internals Maintenance

Equipment Under Pressure

Operating temperature > 100°C. Make sure the trap is cold and depressurized before handling!

  1. Remove the complete drainer from the line.
  2. Unscrew bolts (10) and nuts (9) and disassemble the cap (1) and the body (2).
  3. Remove float stop screw (16), if any.
  4. Remove hex head screw (17).
  5. Remove the valve seat (3) from the mechanism by folding back the lever (5) and unscrewing the valve seat clamp nut (18).
  6. Replace the valve seat (3), place the mechanism and center it before tightening the clamp nut (18). Place the valve lever (5) back.
  7. Center the valve lever (5) with the pivot clip and hold the valve firmly on the seat while tightening the hex head screw (17).
  8. The float lever should remain parallel to the valve lever assembly (adjustment through the hex head nut (17)).
  9. Replace float stop screw (16), if any.
  10. Replace float (6) and float link (14) and assemble them with the pivot pin (15).
  11. Replace gasket (7). Put the cap (1) back on the body (2) and screw bolts (10) and nuts (9).

Important Note: The type and material of bolts must not be changed.
