BURKERT 20133778 (Type 2101) Pneumatic Globe Valve Actuator DN15 NC

BURKERT 20133778 (Type 2101) is a pneumatically operated 2/2-way globe valve actuator for DN15 valves, featuring normally closed control function A, PTFE seat seal, PPS actuator, and 0-25 bar operating pressure.

BURKERT 20133778 (Type 2101) Pneumatic Globe Valve Actuator DN15 NC

BURKERT 20133778 is a pneumatically operated actuator assembly for the Type 2101 ELEMENT series 2/2-way globe valve. Engineered for DN15 nominal seat diameter bodies, it operates in control function A (normally closed by internal spring force) with the medium flow routed below the valve seat. The unit controls neutral gases, air, water, steam, alcohols, fuels, hydraulic fluids, saline solutions, and organic solvents across an operating pressure range of 0.00 to 25.00 bar(g) and fluid temperatures from -10 °C to +185 °C.

BURKERT 20133778 Type 2101 pneumatically operated globe valve

Equipped with a polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) actuator top, stainless steel internal drive casing, and a stainless steel swivel plate with a PTFE seat seal, this actuator assembly is CIP and SIP cleanable. It meets EC Regulation 1935/2004 and FDA requirements for contact with food and beverage products.

Structure and Operating Principle

Type 2101 consists of a pneumatically operated piston actuator coupled to a 2-way valve body. The mechanical thrust is transmitted from the internal piston through a stainless steel spindle directly to the swivel plate, ensuring tight shut-off at leakage rate A in accordance with DIN EN 12266-1.

BURKERT 20133778 Type 2101 structure and component description

In control function A (CF A), the valve is held closed in the rest position by integrated stainless steel springs. Pneumatic pilot pressure applied to pilot air port 1 acts on the actuator piston to open the valve against the spring force.

BURKERT 20133778 Type 2101 flow direction below seat schematic

Directing the flow below the seat ensures reliable operation with liquid media by eliminating water hammer. Because process pressure acts underneath the swivel plate, the minimum required pilot pressure to achieve full opening on a DN15 orifice is 4.8 bar(g), up to a maximum pilot pressure limit of 10.0 bar(g).

Operating Restrictions on Flow Direction

Valves with medium flow above the seat must not be used for liquid media due to the severe hazard of line bursting from water hammer. BURKERT 20133778 is configured for flow below the valve seat, making it fully suitable for liquid and gaseous media.

Materials of Construction

BURKERT 20133778 utilizes high-grade materials to maintain structural stability and chemical resistance in demanding processing environments. The packing gland and internal guide components incorporate NSF H1 classified lubricants.

Technical Data and Operating Limits

The operating envelope of Type 2101 valves is governed by the actuator size, temperature ratings, and standard pressure derating profiles.

Technical ParameterSpecification Value
Orifice / Seat DiameterDN 15 (15 mm)
Actuator SizeØ 70 mm (Designation M, outer diameter A = 91 mm)
Actuator Height (H)250 mm on DN15 valve bodies

Pressure Derating According to Standards

Operating pressure must be reduced at elevated fluid temperatures according to DIN EN 12516-1 (PN25 body rating):

Temperature RangeMaximum Permissible Operating Pressure (PN25)
-10 °C to +50 °C25.0 bar(g)
+100 °C24.5 bar(g)
+150 °C22.4 bar(g)
+185 °C20.9 bar(g) (interpolated)
+200 °C20.3 bar(g)

Installation and Mounting Guidelines

Installation must be carried out by qualified personnel using open-end wrenches. The valve can be oriented in any spatial position, though upright mounting with the actuator pointing upwards is preferred.

Actuator Disassembly Before Pipe Welding

For bodies with welded pipe connections, the actuator must be disassembled from the valve body before welding to avoid thermal destruction of seals and internal guides:

  1. Depressurize the piping and empty all process lines.
  2. Apply 5.0 bar compressed air to pilot port 1 so the valve moves to the open position.
  3. Unscrew the actuator from the valve body using an open-end wrench across the body interface.
  4. Weld the body into the piping system, allowing the metal to fully cool before re-installing the actuator.

Actuator Orientation Adjustment

The actuator housing can be rotated continuously by 360° counter-clockwise (viewed from below) to position the pilot ports and optical indicator conveniently. Keep the valve pressurized in the open position (5.0 bar at port 1) while rotating.

Tightening Torques for Assembly

During assembly or remounting onto the valve body, lubricate the external body thread with food-grade paste (such as Klüberpaste UH1 96-402) and observe strict torque values:

Maintenance and Wearing Part Replacement

Type 2101 actuators are maintenance-free under normal operating conditions. Regular visual inspections should check for tight seal interfaces and ensure no medium discharges through the relief inspection bore on the actuator neck.

Replacing the Swivel Plate and Packing Gland

  1. Pressurize pilot port 1 with 5 bar air to open the valve, then unthread the actuator from the body.
  2. Secure the swivel plate cylindrical neck in a prism block. Drive out the retention pin using a 3 mm pin punch.
  3. Remove the worn swivel plate. Mount the replacement plate from kit 149 606, align the boreholes, insert the new pin, and caulk both borehole edges using a centre punch.
  4. When renewing the spindle packing, unscrew the spindle guide using modified socket wrench 683 221. Pressurize port 1 with 6 to 8 bar air to push the packing rings out from the tube onto a protected surface.
  5. Grease replacement chevron seals and rings from kit 216 433 with the supplied lubricant, slide them onto the spindle in order, and retighten the guide to 6 Nm.
