Swagelok SS-XSS4 316 stainless steel excess flow valve with 1/4 in. tube fittings. Features a 3.9-5.8 gal/min spring trip range to prevent media release during line rupture.

Swagelok SS-XSS4 is a 316 stainless steel excess flow valve designed to protect systems by stopping the uncontrolled release of media in the event of a downstream line rupture. This valve features 1/4 in. Swagelok tube fitting connections on both ends and is rated for a maximum flow coefficient (Cv) of 0.5. It is manufactured following the Swagelok Standard Cleaning and Packaging (SC-10) protocol.
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Body Material | 316 Stainless Steel |
| Connection Size | 1/4 in. |
| Connection Type | Swagelok® Tube Fitting |
| Cv Maximum | 0.5 |
| Spring Trip Range | 3.9 to 5.8 U.S. gal/min (14.7 to 21.9 L/min) |
| Cleaning | SC-10 Standard |
The SS-XSS4 utilizes a fixed-pressure spring-loaded slotted poppet to monitor flow rates. When downstream flow exceeds the specified trip range (such as during a line rupture), the poppet moves to the tripped position to shut off the flow. The valve automatically resets once the system pressure equalizes.
System Safety
The total system design must be considered to ensure safe, trouble-free performance. Function, material compatibility, adequate ratings, proper installation, operation, and maintenance are the responsibilities of the system designer and user.
