BURKERT 344576 Type 2000 CLASSIC Pneumatic 2/2-Way Angle Seat Valve, DN32 Welded Connection

BURKERT Type 2000 (article 344576) is an externally piloted 2/2-way CLASSIC angle seat valve engineered for shut-off applications involving steam and gaseous media. Configured with control function A (normally closed by spring force in the rest position) and flow direction above the seat (flow-to-close), the valve utilizes process line pressure acting over the swivel plate to actively assist the actuator spring in tight seat sealing. The valve body features a DN 32 welded connection compliant with ISO 4200, DIN EN ISO 1127, and DIN 11866 Series B (pipe dimensions 42.4 mm outer diameter × 2.0 mm wall thickness), paired with an 80 mm diameter (size 63 / E) polyamide (PA) pneumatic piston actuator.

The investment-cast valve body is manufactured from CF3M (316L) stainless steel and fitted with a virgin PTFE seat seal, delivering a nominal flow coefficient Kv of 29 m³/h for water. Operating pressure spans 0 bar(g) to 16 bar(g), supported by a nominal pressure rating of PN 25 (DIN EN 1333) and Class 150 (DIN EN 1759). Spindle sealing is achieved through a self-adjusting PTFE V-ring packing gland with spring compensation, providing maintenance-free stem containment across medium temperatures from -10 °C to +185 °C. The valve assembly is suitable for clean-in-place (CIP) and sterilization-in-place (SIP) processes.

Operating Principle and Flow Direction

Type 2000 article 344576 operates via pneumatic pilot pressure admitted through the lower actuator port to overcome internal spring force, lifting the spindle and swivel plate off the valve seat.

BURKERT 344576 BURKERT Type 2000 flow above seat operating principle diagram

In control function A with flow above the seat, media enters above the swivel plate. This configuration ensures that line pressure supplements spring force during closure, enhancing seat shut-off tightness against higher line pressures.

Restriction to Compressible Media (Gases and Steam)

Valves with flow direction above the seat must only be used for gaseous media and steam. Liquid media must never be fed through a valve with flow above the seat because rapid closure against incompressible flow produces severe water hammer, leading to fractured pipework and catastrophic valve failure.

Pilot Pressure and Operating Limits

BURKERT 344576 BURKERT Type 2000 pilot pressure diagram for actuator size 63 mm with flow above seat

For actuator size 63 (E) with flow above the seat, maximum pilot pressure is 10 bar(g). The minimum pilot pressure required to open the valve depends on operating line pressure, starting from 1.9 bar(g) at zero line pressure and increasing up to 4.5 bar(g) at maximum working pressure.

Pressure-Temperature Derating

Operating pressure must be adjusted according to DIN EN 12516-1 PN25 and ASME B16.34 Class 150 limits at elevated temperatures:

  • -10 °C to +50 °C: 25.0 bar (Class 150: 19.0 bar)
  • +100 °C: 24.5 bar (Class 150: 16.2 bar)
  • +150 °C: 22.4 bar (Class 150: 14.8 bar)
  • +185 °C: 21.0 bar (Class 150: 14.0 bar)

Ambient temperature for the PA actuator is derated with increasing medium temperature. At medium temperatures approaching +185 °C, maximum allowable ambient temperature is +55 °C.

Installation, Pipeline Welding, and Maintenance

Type 2000 may be mounted in any orientation, preferably with the actuator upright.

Dismantle Actuator Before Welding

For welded valve bodies, always remove the actuator assembly prior to welding the valve body into the pipework. Welding heat will destroy internal PTFE spindle seals, body gaskets, and plastic actuator components.

Assembly Instructions

  1. Actuator Disassembly: Apply 5.0 bar compressed air to the lower pilot air port (port 10) to lift the swivel plate off the seat. While pressurized, use an open-end wrench on the body connection hexagon flats (item 8) to unscrew the actuator from the valve body.
  2. Welding Body: Weld the CF3M body into the flushed, debris-free pipeline. Ensure pipe alignment is stress-free.
  3. Actuator Reassembly: Inspect the body seal. Apply Klüberpaste UH1 96-402 grease to the interface threads. Pressurize the actuator with 5.0 bar pilot air to retract the swivel plate. Screw the actuator into the body and tighten to 65 Nm (+10/-5 Nm).
  4. Actuator Alignment: The actuator can be steplessly rotated 360° to position the G 1/4 pilot air port. While pressurized with 5.0 bar, rotate the actuator hexagon strictly in the designated direction to avoid loosening the body interface.
