BURKERT 20024510 8652 AirLINE Valve Island for Process Automation

Burkert Type 8652 AirLINE valve island optimized for process automation. Features LC display diagnostics, PROFINET S2, ATEX/IECEx Zone 2 approvals, and AirLINE Quick cabinet mounting.

BURKERT 20024510 8652 AirLINE Valve Island for Process Automation

Burkert Type 8652 AirLINE valve island has been especially developed for process automation requirements. New diagnostic functions can be visualised on the LC display, both in clear text as well as symbols. This makes it easy to relate to the shown messages and helps to save time during start-up and maintenance. Furthermore, the diagnostic message is also available at the controller, enabling a fast overview of the plant status.

The hardware is optimised for installation at the bottom of the control cabinet. Installation on a standard rail is also possible. Key pneumatic functions ensure increased process reliability; for instance, check valves in the exhaust air ducts make sure there is no unplanned actuation due to pressure peaks.

AirLINE Quick

AirLINE Quick considerably reduces the use of components in the control cabinet. With the AirLINE Quick Adapter, the valve terminal is adapted directly to the control cabinet floor or control cabinet wall.

Advantages:

  • Reduced space requirement in the control cabinet
  • Makes it possible to use more compact control cabinets
  • Reduced installation effort due to hose connections directly at the bottom of the control cabinet

Product Installation

To use the Hot Swap function, always observe a minimum distance to the front edge of the control cabinet when installing the valve island inside the control cabinet.

Product Connections

Power Supply

  • Communication and displays: 5-pin spring-loaded terminal (24 V DC, CAN_H, SHIELDING, CAN_L, GND).
  • Pneumatic valves: 2-pin spring-loaded terminal (AUX 24 V, GND).

Fieldbus Interface

  • CANopen/büS: 5-pin spring terminal. Requires 2 terminating resistors (approx. 60 Ω between CAN_H and CAN_L).
  • Industrial Ethernet / PROFINET S2: Interface X1 and X2 RJ45.
  • PROFIBUS DPV1: D-Sub socket 9-pin.

Product Design and Assembly

Electronic Module with Digital Inputs (Optional)

The digital inputs are supplied (24 V) by the electronic module. Current is limited to maximum 30 mA per digital input. Standard 3-wire sensors and 2-wire sensors with voltages between 10…30 V as well as mechanical limit switches can be used.

Type 6534 valves are equipped with additional connection terminals. A valve circuit can therefore be interrupted by an external switch. Manual override is not required for these valve variants. To use the shut-off function, connect the terminal to a potential-free contact (mechanical switch or relay).

Module-Based Safety Shutdown (Optional)

Connections for module-based safety shutdown: Terminal 1 = valve unit 1, Terminal 2 = valve unit 2, etc. Connect the connection to a potential-free contact (mechanical switch or relay). Required switching capacity of the contact is 1.5 A / 24 V DC.

Example Configuration

The following illustration shows a network with the example of AirLINE Type 8652 with Industrial Ethernet variant as master valve terminal and various AirLINE Type 8652 with büS variant as slave valve terminals.

Explosion Protection (EX) Supplementary Notes

When using the device in explosion hazardous areas, special conditions apply.

Voltage and Electrostatic Hazards

  • Voltage: Disconnect power before working on the device or system. Prevent reconnection.
  • In explosive atmospheres, connection terminals for 24 V power supply, SIA, EVS, and digital inputs must only be plugged in or unplugged when de-energized.
  • Electrostatic charge: Sudden discharge of electrostatically charged devices or persons can cause an explosion. Take appropriate measures to ensure no electrostatic charge occurs. Clean surfaces only by wiping gently with a damp or anti-static cloth.

Special Conditions for Hot Swap

  • The use of the Hot Swap function is strictly prohibited in explosive atmospheres.
  • If it can be proven and ensured by means of suitable testing equipment that no explosive atmosphere is present for a certain period of time, it is permissible to remove/insert valves using Hot Swap during this period.
  • The Hot Swap function must only be used by appropriately trained personnel.

Enclosure Requirements

  • For explosion protection type "ec", install the device in an enclosure meeting EN/IEC 60079-0 and EN/IEC 60079-7 requirements with a protection degree of at least IP54.
  • For explosion protection type "tc" (dust), install in an enclosure meeting EN/IEC 60079-31 requirements with a protection degree of at least IP6X.
