BURKERT 20088660 Type 8640 Modular Valve Island for Pneumatics

Burkert Type 8640 modular valve island supports up to 24 valves with multi-pole or fieldbus interfaces. Compatible with AirLINE Quick for compact control cabinets.

BURKERT 20088660 Type 8640 Modular Valve Island for Pneumatics

Burkert Type 8640 modular valve island is designed to solve diverse and complex control problems through systematic modular construction and a combination of pneumatic and electrical interfaces. By assembling a row of pneumatic modules with different numbers of valves, 2 to 24 valve functionalities can be realized on a single valve unit. Electrical connectivity is achieved via fieldbus interfaces, common connection (parallel connection technique), or multipin interfaces.

Bodies and connection modules are constructed from high-quality plastic (polyamide) and assemble easily using built-in snap connectors. The platform allows different applications to be covered by integrating various pilot valve types.

Compatible Solenoid Valves

The Type 8640 system accommodates multiple valve types to suit specific pneumatic requirements.

  • Type 6524 and Type 6525: 3/2, 2x3/2, and 5/2-way valves with 11 mm width per station. They consist of a pilot flipper solenoid valve Type 6144 and a pneumatic seat valve, allowing high pressures with low power consumption (0.8 W).
  • Type 0460: 5/2 and 5/3-way bistable valves with 11 mm width. Features an aluminum body fitted with a double coil pilot valve.
  • Type 6526 and Type 6527: 3/2 and 5/2-way valves with 16.5 mm width. They consist of a pneumatic valve body fitted with a Type 6106 rocker solenoid valve, delivering up to 700 l/min flow rate.
  • Type 5470: 3/2 and 4/2-way valves with 18/19 mm width. Utilizes a non-wearing tilting armature rocker pilot valve.

AirLINE Quick Integration

AirLINE Quick considerably reduces the use of components in the control cabinet. With the AirLINE Quick Adapter, the valve terminal is adapted directly to the control cabinet floor or wall.

BURKERT 20088660 Burkert Type 8640 AirLINE Quick adapter

  • Reduced space requirement in the control cabinet.
  • Enables the use of more compact control cabinets.
  • Reduced installation effort due to hose connections directly at the bottom of the control cabinet.

INFO

Type 0460 valves cannot be installed with AirLINE Quick due to their physical size.

Product Connections

The Type 8640 supports multiple electrical connection strategies:

  • Collective Connection Module: Connection via individual stranded wires, looped-through ground potential, max 24 valves, IP20 protection, screw-type terminals.
  • Multi-pin Module: Max 24 valves, IP20 protection, electrical connection plug D-Sub (25-pin).
  • Fieldbus Modules: Supports PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET IO, EtherNet/IP, and Modbus TCP. Handles max 24 valves and max 32 digital inputs (with EME module).

The pneumatic section includes a left pneumatic connection module, basic pneumatic modules, a right pneumatic connection module, and the individual valves (e.g., 5/2-way).

Installation Guidelines

Valve Block Installation

BURKERT 20088660 Burkert Type 8640 valve block installation on standard rail

Standard Rail Installation:

  1. Hook the valve block with the upper groove into the standard rail (35 x 15 or 35 x 7.5 EN 50022).
  2. Snap the lower clamping pieces into the standard rail.
  3. Tighten the screws on the clamping pieces.

Wall Installation: Fasten the valve block directly to the wall with M4 screws.

WARNING

Crushed O-rings and profile seals lead to leaky blocks. Insert 3 O-rings into the recess on the back of the valve and ensure that the seal is properly fitted before fastening each valve to the base module with 2 screws (recommended tightening torque 0.6 ±0.1 Nm).
