BURKERT 20113252 Type 2933 Manually Operated 2/2-Way Diaphragm Valve DN 40 ASME BPE Clamp

BURKERT 20113252 (Type 2933) is a manual 2/2-way diaphragm valve with forged 316L body, DN 40 ASME BPE clamp connection, PTFE/EPDM diaphragm, 0-10 bar operating pressure, and optical stroke indicator.

BURKERT 20113252 Type 2933 Manually Operated 2/2-Way Diaphragm Valve DN 40 ASME BPE Clamp

BURKERT 20113252 (Type 2933) is a manually operated 2/2-way diaphragm valve engineered for ultra-pure, sterile, aggressive, or abrasive fluid isolation. Built with a forged 316L / 1.4435 BN2 stainless steel body, this configuration integrates an ASME BPE DN 40 (1 1/2") clamp port, a PTFE/EPDM backed diaphragm (size 40), and an autoclavable polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) bonnet and handwheel actuator. The flow-optimised, zero-deadleg interior profile achieves a water Kv value of 37.5 m³/h (Cv 43.7 gal/min) while supporting bidirectional shut-off up to 10 bar.

Equipped with an integrated visual position indicator and an adjustable closing limiter, the manual actuator protects sealing faces against over-tightening. All product-wetted stainless steel surfaces feature an electropolished internal finish with Ra ≤ 0.38 µm, certified to ASME BPE SF4 and DIN HE4 standards. Complete traceability is documented through an enclosed EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate, while the sealing system conforms to USP Class VI, FDA 21 CFR 177, and EC Regulation 1935/2004 requirements for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and food processing systems.

Sealing Definitions

  • Static tightness: Valve is closed against static upstream pressure. At 7.0 Nm tightening torque for diaphragm size 40 (PTFE), the seat seals up to 10 bar with zero seat leakage.
  • Dynamic tightness: Valve is closed against continuous flowing media. A torque of 15.0 Nm is required on diaphragm size 40 (PTFE) to achieve drop-tight shut-off across the seat.

Actuator Features and Operational Settings

BURKERT 20113252 Type 2933 optical position indicator and rotation scale

Turning the handwheel counterclockwise lifts the internal spindle, opening the fluid path and progressively revealing the yellow optical indicator. On actuator sizes 15 to 50, the indicator carries an indexed stroke scale. The handwheel circumference incorporates 30 position marks, allowing repeatable intermediate flow throttles.

Setting the Minimum Stroke Limiter (Closing Limiter)

BURKERT 20113252 Type 2933 minimum stroke limit setting with hexagon nut

Type 2933 features an adjustable minimum stroke limiter housed inside the handwheel hub. This mechanism establishes a repeatable mechanical bottom stop, preventing diaphragm over-compression:

  1. Rotate the handwheel clockwise until the valve reaches the fully closed position.
  2. Loosen the retaining screw on the handwheel using a 2 mm hexagon socket wrench, then pull off the handwheel.
  3. Screw down the internal hexagon nut until it stops firmly against the bonnet stop.
  4. Align the spindle square and nut hexagon with the internal geometry of the handwheel, then reseat the handwheel.
  5. Fasten the central handwheel screw to a torque of 0.9 Nm (thread locking adhesive may be applied if permanent setting is required).

Stroke Limit Range Restriction

The minimum stroke limit is intended solely for diaphragm protection in the 0% to 25% opening stroke range. Do not engage the nut threads along the drive square profile.

Sensor Preparation and Optional Accessories

The PPS bonnet includes two threaded bores for inductive proximity switch mounting. Switches detect the position of the internal compressor.

Installation and Piping Guidelines

The valve mounts in any orientation, though installation with the actuator pointing vertically upward is preferred. When installed in sanitary process lines requiring complete drainability without media pooling, comply with the following criteria:

  1. Pipeline Inclination: Set line inclination according to ASME BPE standards.
  2. Self-Draining Angle: Align the forged body (VS) so that the marked alignment notch on the clamp collar points upwards.
  3. Relief Bore Orientation: Ensure at least one relief bore in the PPS diaphragm bonnet faces the lowest gravitational point to provide early leakage detection.

Pressure Relief Prior to Work

Depressurise pipelines and vent all lines completely before loosening body clamp connections or bonnet bolts. Hot media or trapped line pressure may cause burns and fluid spray.

Maintenance and Diaphragm Replacement

BURKERT 20113252 Type 2933 diaphragm assembly and replacement sequence

Under clean process operating conditions, the Type 2933 actuator is maintenance-free. Conduct routine visual inspections of the bonnet relief bore for fluid drops. Inspect the diaphragm after steam sterilisation or after a maximum of 100,000 operating cycles.

Replacement Procedure for Article 20113252 (Size 40 PTFE/EPDM)

  1. Open the valve fully by turning the handwheel counterclockwise.
  2. Loosen the four body fastening bolts crosswise and separate the actuator and diaphragm from the forged valve body.
  3. Turn the handwheel clockwise to the CLOSED position, driving the internal compressor forward.
  4. Rotate the PTFE/EPDM diaphragm by 90° to disengage the bayonet catch pin from the compressor, then remove the diaphragm.
  5. Insert the replacement PTFE/EPDM diaphragm tab into the compressor socket and lock it by rotating 90°.
  6. Retract the compressor by turning the handwheel counterclockwise to the OPEN position.
  7. Position the diaphragm so that its identification tab sits at a 90° angle to the pipeline flow direction.
  8. Place the actuator assembly back onto the body, tighten bolts crosswise to 10.0 Nm in 3 stages, then cycle the handwheel twice to seat the elastomer.

Potential Electrostatic Charging Hazard

  • Establish equipotential bonding by connecting the conductive stainless steel valve body directly to the pipeline grounding network.
  • Media with conductivity ≤ 100 pS/m may only be transferred at velocities ≤ 1 m/s, or with system dry-run interlocks.
  • Clean external plastic surfaces exclusively using a damp or antistatic cloth to prevent spark discharge in explosive atmospheres.
