BURKERT 20012212 (Type 2032) Pneumatic T-Diaphragm Valve, ASME BPE Weld End 3/8", PPS Actuator, NC

BURKERT 20012212 (Type 2032) is an externally piloted CLASSIC series T-diaphragm valve designed for ultra-pure, sterile, and hygienic process installations. The assembly consists of a pneumatically operated PPS piston actuator (size 40 / C), an internal PTFE/EPDM backing membrane, and a zero-deadleg T-valve body machined from high-purity stainless steel block material 1.4435 (316L). Configured with Control Function A (normally closed by spring force), the valve controls fluid routing across three process ports with weld-end connections configured to ASME BPE and DIN 11866 Series C (3/8" outer diameter, 9.53 mm OD x 0.89 mm wall thickness, DN 10 / diaphragm size 8).

BURKERT 20012212 Type 2032 CLASSIC pneumatic T-diaphragm valve

The unit features a static operating pressure range of 0 to 10 bar, an internal electropolished surface finish of Ra ≤ 0.38 µm (ASME BPE SF4 / DIN HE4), and full compatibility with CIP and SIP cleaning regimens. The high-performance PPS actuator body is autoclavable, operates across ambient temperatures from +5 °C to +140 °C, and includes an optical position indicator as standard. Medium Pressure Definition

All stated pressure values represent gauge pressure relative to atmospheric pressure. Static pressure refers to conditions where maximum operating pressure is applied to one side of the valve in the closed state.

Installation Guidelines & Piping Integration

BURKERT 20012212 Type 2032 recommended installation orientation on loop piping

The valve can be mounted in any orientation, but positioning the actuator upright is recommended for prolonged cycle life. When integrating the T-valve into loop distribution piping, observe the manufacturer-defined orientation to prevent fluid hold-up:

  1. Ensure piping lines maintain a continuous decline of 1° to 5° to ensure self-draining performance.
  2. Ensure the leak detection weep hole in the actuator bonnet points toward the lowest point to detect diaphragm wear immediately.
  3. Support and align pipe runs prior to fitting the body to eliminate thermal and mechanical pipe stress on the valve body.

Dismount Actuator and Diaphragm Before Welding

Thermal damage from orbital or manual welding will destroy elastomer diaphragms and actuator internal seals. Always remove the actuator and diaphragm prior to welding the valve body into the line.

Actuator Dismounting Procedure Prior to Welding (Control Function A)

  1. Connect compressed air (5.0 to 7.0 bar) to the lower pilot air port (Port 1) to lift the diaphragm away from the valve seat weir.
  2. Loosen body fasteners crosswise while pilot air pressure is applied.
  3. Remove the actuator assembly with the attached diaphragm away from the stainless steel block body.
  4. Perform pipeline welding and chemical passivation.
  5. Reassemble the actuator only after the body has cooled completely.

Diaphragm Replacement & Maintenance

BURKERT 20012212 Type 2032 diaphragm replacement and pin mounting alignment

For diaphragm size 8, the valve uses a snap-in mounting mechanism (unthreaded snap connection). Inspection of the overflow weep hole should be performed routinely for any media ingress.

Diaphragm Installation Sequence (Control Function A)

  1. Supply pilot air pressure to the lower pilot port to hold the actuator spindle in the retracted position.
  2. Snap the new diaphragm securely into the spindle retainer. Align the diaphragm alignment tab perpendicular to the fluid flow axis.
  3. Position the actuator onto the valve body.
  4. Screw in body bolts lightly crosswise until the diaphragm is captured evenly between body and actuator.
  5. Cycle the valve pneumatically twice to seat the elastomer correctly.
  6. Depressurise the pilot port completely.
  7. Tighten body fasteners in three progressive torque increments (approx. 1/3, 2/3, and 3/3 of nominal torque) in a crosswise pattern to the final torque specified below.

Torque Limits

Tightening torque tolerance is +10%. For size 8 PTFE/EPDM diaphragms, exact nominal torque is 2.5 Nm. Over-tightening fasteners will reduce diaphragm operating life. Re-torque fasteners crosswise after the initial steam sterilisation run.
