TLV SS3N / SS3V Stainless Steel Free Float Steam Traps

TLV SS3N and SS3V compact, maintenance-free stainless steel free float steam traps with thermostatic air venting for steam mains and tracer lines.

TLV SS3N / SS3V Stainless Steel Free Float Steam Traps

The TLV SS3N and SS3V are compact, maintenance-free, all-stainless steel free float steam traps with a bimetal thermostatic air vent. They are suitable for a wide range of small to medium capacity applications up to 21 barg (or 4.6 MPaG for related series), such as steam mains, tracer lines, and process heaters. The traps discharge condensate continuously and automatically at a temperature slightly lower than the saturation temperature.

Features

  • All-welded, maintenance-free construction: Designed for long service life without the need for internal part replacement.
  • Automatic bimetal air vent: Ensures rapid start-up by quickly discharging initial air and cold condensate.
  • Self-modulating free float: Provides continuous, smooth, low-velocity condensate discharge as process loads vary.
  • Constant water seal and three-point seating: Ensures a steam-tight seal, even under no-load conditions.
  • Single moving part: The free float is the only moving part, preventing concentrated wear.
  • Built-in screen: Features a large surface area to hold back impurities and ensure trouble-free operation.

WARNING

To avoid abnormal operation, accidents, or serious injury, DO NOT use this product outside of the specification range. Local regulations may restrict the use of this product to below the conditions quoted. DO NOT use this product under conditions that exceed maximum differential pressure, as condensate backup will occur.

Pressure Shell Design Conditions

  • Max. Allowable Pressure (PMA): 24 barg
  • Max. Allowable Temperature (TMA): 400 °C (Note: These are design conditions, NOT operating conditions.)

Installation and Piping

DANGER

NEVER apply direct heat to the float. The float may explode due to increased internal pressure, causing accidents leading to serious injury or damage to property and equipment.

Installation Guidelines

  1. Before installation, remove all protective seals and blow out the inlet piping to remove dirt and oil.
  2. Install a bypass valve to discharge condensate, and inlet/outlet valves to isolate the trap for maintenance.
  3. Install the trap in the lowest part of the pipeline so condensate flows naturally downward by gravity.
  4. Ensure the "UP" sticker (vertical type) or the nameplate (horizontal type) is facing up.
  5. Install a check valve at the trap outlet if the discharge pipe leads to a recovery line or is connected to multiple traps.

Allowable Inclination

Troubleshooting

If the expected performance is unachievable after installation, check the following points:

ProblemCauseCorrective Measures
Condensate is not dischargedPressure exceeds maximum operating pressureReplace trap with appropriately rated model or reduce steam pressure
Pipelines upstream or downstream are cloggedClean pipelines
Poor discharge of condensatePipelines upstream or downstream are cloggedClean pipelines
Trap capacity is too smallReplace with larger trap
Steam leakage or blow-offImproper trap installation (above max. allowable inclination angle)Correct trap installation
Severe vibration of trapReinforce trap piping supports

Optional Insulation Cover

An insulation cover (glass mat/glass fiber cloth) is available as an option for the SS3N and SS3V to reduce heat loss.
