Yoshitake TSD-7 / TSD-7F Disc Type Steam Trap with Bypass

Yoshitake TSD-7 and TSD-7F are disc type steam traps featuring a built-in bypass, designed to meet a wide variety of needs in building facilities and industrial applications. The integrated bypass significantly reduces piping and construction costs by eliminating the need for a separate bypass line. Utilizing a bimetal ring, these steam traps effectively solve the air-binding problem by ensuring a smooth discharge of cold condensate and air at the start of operation, which allows steam equipment to start up efficiently.

The traps are constructed with a durable ductile cast iron body and stainless steel internal components. The valve disc and seat undergo a special heat treatment for extended durability. A distinctive switching cock allows operators to easily change between four operational modes (STOP, BY-PASS, TRAP, and TEST) using a simple wrench, streamlining maintenance and operational checks without being affected by back pressure.

Features

  • Multi-Function Cock: Four functions (STOP, BY-PASS, TRAP, and TEST) can be switched easily with an optional handle, spanner, or monkey wrench.
  • Cost Efficiency: The integrated bypass function helps reduce piping and construction work costs significantly.
  • Air Venting: Bimetal solves the air-binding problem and ensures a smooth discharge of cold condensate or air at startup.
  • Easy Inspection: The product's operation can be checked via the TEST position without being affected by back pressure.
  • Durability: The stainless steel valve disc and valve seat are subjected to special heat treatment.
  • Maintainability: The disc, valve seat, and bimetal can be easily replaced without removing the body from the piping. Equipped with a built-in strainer.
  • Flexible Installation: Can be installed vertically or horizontally as desired (ensure the cover is not under the horizontal level).

Maximum Continuous Discharge Capacity

Sizing Recommendation

In designing a system, select a steam trap with a sufficient safety factor (four to five times the regular level). For example, if a discharge capacity of 100 kg/h is required, select a steam trap capable of discharging 400 to 500 kg/h.

Cock Operation and Function Changeover

Yoshitake TSD-7 function changeover cock positions

All steam traps are set at the "STOP" position when delivered. In order to switch the cock, be sure that each mark (▲) of the functions meets the mark (▼) on the indicator accurately. If not, the product does not function correctly.

  1. STOP: Fluid is blocked off since the inlet, outlet, and bypass are closed. Select this position for cleaning the strainer and inspecting the disc and seat.
  2. BY-PASS: Fluid flows through the bypass directly to the outlet. Select this position to blow the piping during plumbing or to discharge a large quantity of condensate at start-up. Do not keep the product in this function for a long period.
  3. TRAP: The product performs regular trap operation. Condensate is discharged from the inlet to the outlet through the trap without flowing out from the bypass.
  4. TEST: Condensate is discharged from the inlet to the test-line outlet through the trap so that trap operation can be verified. Test can be carried out without being affected by back pressure.

Safety Caution

Do not switch the position of the cock during disassembly. It is dangerous because steam may blow out.

Installation Guidelines

Yoshitake TSD-7 piping installation example

  1. Carefully blow the piping to remove foreign substances and scale before installing the steam trap.
  2. Connect the steam trap according to the arrow indicating the direction of flow.
  3. Slope the piping and place the product at as low a position as possible to allow condensate to flow into the product by gravity.
  4. Do not insulate the piping inlet and the steam trap.
  5. To install the product in a main steam pipe, provide a drip leg at the inlet side of the product.
  6. Secure enough space for switching the cock and for maintenance (cleaning the strainer, inspection).
  7. If discharge capacity is not enough, install more than one trap. Ensure their inlets are at the same level.
  8. Do not install the steam trap in a place where ambient temperature is higher than the condensate to be discharged.
