BURKERT 20045572 Type 2301 Pneumatic 2-Way Globe Control Valve DN 10 Flange PN 25

BURKERT 20045572 (Type 2301) is a pneumatically operated 2-way globe control valve engineered for continuous flow regulation of liquids, gases, and steam in industrial and hygienic process environments. Configured as a complete valve assembly under article number 20045572, the unit features a DN 10 flanged connection to DIN EN 1092-1 PN 25, a 15 mm body nominal size, and a 6 mm nominal seat orifice yielding a Kv value of 1.25 m³/h with an equal percentage flow characteristic. Operating under Control Function A (normally closed by spring force), the valve directs process medium below the seat, preventing water hammer and delivering stable throttling control across operating pressures from 0.00 to 16.00 bar(g) and fluid temperatures from -10 °C to +185 °C.

Constructed with a cast stainless steel 316L / CF3M body, a parabolic stainless steel control cone (1.4571), and a self-adjusting spindle packing gland with spring-compensated PTFE V-rings, the assembly is certified food-contact compliant according to EC Regulation 1935/2004 and FDA declarations. The valve integrates directly with ELEMENT series digital electropneumatic positioners and process controllers via internal air routing, eliminating external pilot tubing.

Construction and Operating Principle

BURKERT 20045572 Type 2301 cross-sectional view of ELEMENT pneumatic actuator and globe valve body

Type 2301 utilizes an angle-seat-style flow geometry inside a globe body profile, optimizing fluid flow and reducing turbulence. The parabolic control cone translates linearly through a precision spindle guide, modulating the opening area between the cone and the screw-in valve seat. The seat is threaded into the body, allowing replacement or resizing between trim sizes.

Under Control Function A, internal mechanical springs force the spindle downwards, pressing the metallic control cone into the valve seat to maintain a closed state in the absence of control air. When pilot pressure (5.5 to 7.0 bar) is admitted to pilot air port 1, it acts on the actuator piston seal, lifting the spindle against the spring package to open the flow path.

BURKERT 20045572 Type 2301 flow direction below seat schematic

The flow direction is strictly below the seat. Medium pressure acts beneath the cone, which assists valve opening, avoids dynamic slamming during closure, and provides smooth, reproducible positioning across the stroke range.

Fluidic Characteristics and Flow Curve

BURKERT 20045572 Type 2301 equal percentage flow characteristic diagram

The parabolic contour of the 6 mm stainless steel control cone provides an equal percentage characteristic in accordance with DIN EN 60534-2-4 with a 50:1 theoretical rangeability. Actuator size 70 mm provides enhanced positioning control compared to 50 mm actuators, maintaining tight linearity tolerances down to 10% of stroke.

Hygiene and Food Standards

Model 20045572 wetted parts comply with European Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations according to manufacturer declarations. The unit supports clean-in-place (CIP) protocols and steam-in-place (SIP) sterilisation cycles up to +185 °C.

Automation and Control Unit Combination

Type 2301 forms the Continuous ELEMENT valve system (Type 8802-GD) when paired directly with Burkert digital positioners and process controllers:

  • Type 8692 / 8693 TopControl: Digital electropneumatic positioner or process controller featuring an illuminated graphic display, touch keypad, TUNE automatic self-calibration, diagnostic functions, and industrial fieldbus connectivity (PROFIBUS DPV1, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, büS).
  • Type 8694 / 8696 TopControl BASIC: Compact positioners utilizing pushbuttons and DIP switches for commissioning, with AS-Interface and IO-Link options.
  • Type 8792 / 8793 SideCONTROL Remote: Digital positioners and process controllers paired with the Type 8798 contactless linear displacement sensor.

Pneumatic control channels route internally through the ELEMENT stem interface, protecting electrical contacts and pilot seals from external chemical exposure.

Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Instructions

Safety Instructions

  • De-pressurize and vent all medium and pneumatic supply lines prior to installation, connection, or disassembly.
  • The pneumatic actuator contains pre-stressed internal springs. Never attempt to disassemble or unclamp the actuator housing.
  • Maintain control air pressure between 5.5 and 7.0 bar(g). Use clean instrument air conforming to DIN ISO 8573-1: Class 3 (water content) and Class 5 (dust and oil content).

Installation Procedure

  1. Pipeline Preparation: Flush piping thoroughly to remove weld scale, metal chips, and particulate matter before bolting the DN 10 flanges.
  2. Orientation: The preferred mounting orientation is with the actuator positioned vertically upright. Ensure the body arrow aligns with the process flow direction (flow under seat).
  3. Actuator Rotation: The actuator housing can be smoothly rotated 360° to optimize air connection routing. Pressurize pilot port 1 with 5 bar compressed air to lift the cone off the seat, hold the body nipple wrench flat with an open-end wrench, and rotate the actuator hexagon counterclockwise (viewed from below).
  4. Tightening Torque: When securing or reassembling the body nipple to the valve body, tighten to 45 ± 3 Nm for DN 10 / DN 15 ports using an open-end wrench.

Commissioning and Maintenance

  • After mounting a control head, execute the automatic X.TUNE routine to calibrate end positions, stroke length, and control parameters.
  • Inspect the packing gland relief bore located on the actuator lower tube annually. Any medium leakage indicates wear of the primary PTFE V-rings and mandates seal replacement.
