BURKERT 20059139 Type 8640 Modular Valve Island, 11 mm, Multi-pole

BURKERT 20059139 Type 8640 is a modular valve island for pneumatics designed to solve diverse and complex control problems through a systematic modular construction and a combination of pneumatic and electrical interfaces. This revision 3 model features an 11 mm width per station, an 8x 3/2 valve function C configuration, and a multi-pole Sub D 25-pin communication interface. By putting together a row of pneumatic modules, multiple valve functionalities are realized on one unit.

The system utilizes a compact design with an 11 mm width per station and supports a modular configuration for up to 24 valve slots. It allows for the simple exchange of valves with an integrated P-shut-off (HotSwap), which limits flow reduction to approximately 20% during operation.

Circuit Function

The 20059139 configuration utilizes Circuit Function C (CF C).

  • Description: 3/2-way solenoid valve, servo-controlled, with manual override, normally closed.
  • Rest position: Pressure port 1 (P/NC) is closed, working port 2 (A/OUT) is open to exhaust port 3 (R/NO).

AirLINE Quick Adapter

The AirLINE Quick system reduces the use of components in the control cabinet. With the AirLINE Quick Adapter, the valve terminal is adapted directly to the control cabinet floor or wall.

  • Reduces space requirements, enabling the use of more compact control cabinets.
  • Reduces installation effort due to hose connections directly at the bottom of the control cabinet.
  • Adapter plate materials: Stainless steel 1.4301 or anodised aluminium.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation Safety

  • Switch off the pressure before working on the device or system. Vent or drain the pipes.
  • Switch off voltage before working on the device or system and secure against reactivation.
  • Before applying pressure to the valve, check all hose connections and fittings for a tight, secure fit.

Push-in Connector Recommendations

To ensure optimal retention of pneumatic hoses in the push-in connectors (ISO 14743:2020):

  • Cut the hose straight. Cutting it diagonally adversely affects the holding force.
  • Press the hose into the push-in connector with sufficient force so that it is held correctly by the claws.
  • Check the hose for visible damage such as cracks, kinks, or wear before insertion.

Maintenance

If continuous operation is interrupted, a minimum activity of 1-2 switching operations per day is recommended for the duration of the downtime to ensure functional reliability.
