BURKERT 328744 Type 8640 Modular Valve Island

BURKERT 328744 Type 8640 modular valve island. 10-bank configuration, 33mm dimension, G 1/2 pressure port, 2-8 bar operating pressure, and IP20 protection.

BURKERT 328744 Type 8640 Modular Valve Island

BURKERT 328744 Type 8640 modular valve island is designed to solve diverse and complex control problems through a systematic modular construction and a combination of pneumatic and electrical interfaces. By putting together a row of pneumatic modules with different numbers of valves, 2 to 24 valve functionalities may be realized on one valve unit. This specific 10-bank configuration features a 33 mm add-on dimension, G 1/2 pressure ports, and operates within a 2 to 8 bar pressure range.

Design and Features

The Type 8640 system provides a compact design with modular configuration. Bodies and connection modules are made of high-quality plastic (polyamide) and are easy to assemble by means of built-in snap connectors.

  • AirLINE Quick: Reduces space requirements in the control cabinet and minimizes installation effort due to hose connections directly at the bottom of the control cabinet or wall.
  • Valve Exchange: Allows simple exchange of valves. With the "P-shut-off" option, this is also possible during operation.
  • Electrical Connectivity: Achieved by either fieldbus interfaces, common connection (parallel connection technique), or multipin interfaces.

Installation

WARNING

Risk of injury due to high pressure and escaping medium. Switch off the pressure before working on the device or system. Vent or drain the pipes.

Valve Block Installation

The valve block can be installed on a standard rail or directly on a wall.

  1. Standard Rail: Hook the valve block with the upper groove into the standard rail (35 x 15 or 35 x 7.5 EN 50022). Snap the lower clamping pieces into the rail and tighten the screws.
  2. Wall Installation: Fasten the valve block directly to the wall with M4 screws.

Pneumatic Connection

Push the hose lines into the push-in connections of the solenoid valves until they come to a stop. Use PTFE tape or elastomer seal for sealing the threaded connection.

  • Hose Requirements: Minimum hardness 40 Shore D (according to DIN 53505 or ISO 868). Outer diameter according to DIN 73378 (maximum permissible deviation ± 0.1 mm from nominal dimension). The hose must be burr-free, cut off at right angles, and undamaged on the outer diameter surface.

TIP

If you encounter leakage or retention problems when installing pneumatic hoses, ensure that the appropriate combination of hose material (polyamide or polyurethane) and push-in connector is used. Cut the hose straight, as cutting it diagonally adversely affects the holding force.

Electrical Installation

DANGER

Risk of injury due to electric shock. Switch off voltage before working on the device or system. Secure against reactivation. If there is no protective conductor contact between the coil and the housing, there is a risk of electric shock.

Screw on the cable plug observing the maximum tightening torque of 0.3 Nm. Check that the seal is correctly fitted. Connect the protective conductor and check electrical continuity between the coil and housing.
