Spirax Sarco EL2280 and EL2281 are Pt100 platinum resistance temperature sensors designed for general industrial applications. Both models utilize a three-wire RTD sensing element compliant with EN 60751: Class A standards. The measurement range spans from -200°C to +800°C, with models intended for temperatures exceeding 300°C featuring an integrated heat radiator. These sensors provide reliable temperature monitoring for steam and other industrial fluid systems.

EL2280 Temperature Sensor

The EL2280 is a standard Pt100 RTD sensor. It provides a direct resistance output and is typically used with external controllers or indicators. It features a 1/2" NPT process connection and supports custom insertion depths ranging from 25mm to 1000mm.

EL2281 Temperature Transmitter

The EL2281 combines a Pt100 sensor with an integrated transmitter, providing a 4-20mA output with HART communication protocol. This allows for seamless integration with modern control systems and computers. The EL2281 includes a local LCD screen for real-time temperature display at the point of measurement. It shares the same connection and depth options as the EL2280.

Thermowells

A standard 1/2" NPT threaded thermowell is provided. Additional process connections are available upon request, including various G/M/NPT threads, PN or ANSI flanges, and socket weld options. Thermowells are rated for a maximum operating pressure of 30 MPa and temperatures up to 800°C.

Installation Notes

• Insertion Depth: For pipe installation, the suggested depth is 1/2 of the pipe diameter plus the height of the mounting boss.
• Fluid Flow: The probe must not be installed in static (no-flow) zones within the pipeline.
• Thermal Conductivity: If a thermowell is used, it is recommended to add thermal oil inside the well to improve response.
• High Temperature: For steam systems, horizontal installation is recommended to protect electronics from high ambient temperatures.
• Shielding: Use 3-core shielded cable for EL2280 and 2-core shielded cable for EL2281 to prevent signal interference.
