Cast SteelInline RepairableBimetal Air Vent

TLV JH7.2R-B Free Float Steam Trap

TLV JH7.2R-B free float steam trap with thermostatic bimetal air venting. Designed for medium-to-large process equipment, featuring cast steel construction, 46 barg max pressure, and inline repairability.

TLV JH7.2R-B Free Float Steam Trap

TLV JH7.2R-B is a reliable and durable cast steel free float steam trap for use on medium-size and high-pressure process equipment. The inline repairable steam trap features a thermostatic bimetal air vent valve that automatically vents air for rapid startup. It is suitable for a wide range of applications with pressures up to 46 barg.

The self-modulating free float provides continuous, smooth, low-velocity condensate discharge as process loads vary, while a constant water seal design ensures a steam-tight seal even under low-load conditions. A built-in screen with a large surface area ensures extended trouble-free operation, and its inline access to internal parts simplifies cleaning and reduces maintenance costs.

Safety Considerations

DANGER

NEVER apply direct heat to the float. The float may explode due to increased internal pressure, causing accidents leading to serious injury or damage to property and equipment.

WARNING

Install properly and DO NOT use this product outside the recommended operating pressure, temperature and other specification ranges. DO NOT use this product in excess of the maximum operating pressure differential. Such use could make discharge impossible. Wait until the internal pressure equals atmospheric pressure and the surface of the product has cooled to room temperature before disassembling or removing the product.

Installation and Piping

INFO

Installation, inspection, maintenance, repairs, disassembly, adjustment and valve opening/closing should be carried out only by trained maintenance personnel.

  1. Before installation, remove all protective seals.
  2. Blow out the inlet piping to remove dirt and oil.
  3. Install the steam trap within the allowable inclination (horizontal) and ensure the arrow mark on the body corresponds with the flow direction.
  4. Install the trap in the lowest part of the pipeline or equipment so the condensate flows naturally by gravity. The inlet pipe should be short and have few bends.
  5. Support pipes properly within 800 mm on either side of the trap.
  6. Install a bypass valve to discharge condensate, and isolation valves for maintenance.
  7. Install a check valve at the outlet if connecting to a common condensate return line.

Piping Arrangement:

  • Install a catchpot with the proper diameter.
  • Connect the inlet pipe 25-50 mm above the base of the T-pipe to prevent rust and scale from flowing into the trap.
  • Make sure nothing obstructs the flow of condensate at a blind end.

Inspection and Maintenance

Operational inspections should be performed at least twice per year.

Parts Inspection Procedure
Body, Cover(s)Check inside for damage, dirt, grease, oil film, rust or scale
GasketsCheck for warping or damage
Bimetal PlateCheck for damage
Air Vent Valve (and Seat)Check for damage
Screen(s)Check for clogging, corrosion or damage
FloatCheck for deformation, damage, oil film or water inside
Orifice OpeningCheck for rust, scale, oil film, wear or damage

TIP

Tighten cover nuts to 150 N·m (24 mm across flats) and orifice to 350 N·m (38 mm) for the JH7.2R-B model. Orifice plug should be tightened to 700 N·m (46 mm).

Operational Check

  • Normal: Condensate is discharged continuously with flash steam and the sound of flow can be heard.
  • Blocked: No condensate is discharged. The trap is quiet and surface temperature is low.
  • Blowing: Live steam continually flows from the outlet with a continuous metallic sound.
  • Steam Leakage: Live steam is discharged together with condensate and there is a high-pitched sound.
