Yoshitake TD-10NA Thermodynamic Steam Trap

Yoshitake TD-10NA and TD-30NA disc-type thermodynamic steam traps feature a built-in bimetal ring, stainless steel disc, and ductile cast iron body for steam condensate up to 2.0 MPa.

Yoshitake TD-10NA Thermodynamic Steam Trap

Yoshitake TD-10NA and TD-30NA steam traps are disc-type thermodynamic traps designed for steam condensate applications. Featuring a built-in bimetal ring, these traps effectively solve air-binding problems by ensuring a smooth discharge of cold condensate and air at the start of operation, allowing steam equipment to start up efficiently. The TD-10NA features a screwed connection, while the TD-30NA offers a flanged connection.

Features

  • Bimetal Air Venting: Immediately discharges cold water and air during startup to prevent air-binding.
  • High Durability: The stainless steel valve disc and valve seat are subjected to special heat treatment for excellent durability.
  • Easy Maintenance: The valve disc, valve seat, and bimetal can be replaced on-site without removing the steam trap from the piping. The disc is the only movable part.
  • Compact & Versatile: Lightweight and inexpensive, with a wide working pressure range requiring no adjustment.
  • Flexible Installation: Can be installed in any direction (horizontally, slidingly, or vertically).
  • Air Insulation: Free of improper operation and steam leakage due to its air insulation type design.
  • Built-in Strainer: Eliminates the requirement for a separate strainer before the product.

Maximum Continuous Discharge Capacity

Yoshitake TD-10NA maximum continuous discharge capacity chart

Safety Factor Selection

The discharge capacity shown on the chart is the maximum value. In designing a system, select a steam trap with a sufficient safety factor (four to five times the regular level). For example, if a discharge capacity of 100 kg/h is required, select a steam trap capable of discharging 400 to 500 kg/h.

Installation

The steam trap can be installed horizontally, slidingly, or vertically.

Installation Precautions

  • Plumb the piping of the outlet side to a safe place where blowing steam condensate cannot affect personnel.
  • Remove foreign matter and scales from the lines before connecting the valve.
  • Ensure the direction of fluid flow matches the inlet and outlet ports of the product.
  • Do not use a quick-operating valve in front and behind the trap to prevent water hammer, which can damage the trap.
  • Do not insulate the product.

Piping Best Practices

  • When installing a by-pass line, prepare a stop valve to the outlet side of the trap.
  • Steam trapping near a regulating valve shall be provided to the inlet side.
  • Condensate from the steam main shall be taken out from the bottom.
  • The trap shall be positioned at the bottom of the condensate producing device.
  • Condensate from every device shall be trapped independently.
  • The inlet and outlet piping shall be the same nominal size as the nominal size of the trap.
  • The size of the collecting condensate pipe should be larger than the sum area of each discharge pipe. Install check valves to prevent backflow.
  • The end of the trap discharge pipe shall be positioned above the water level in the pit to prevent suctioning dirty water when the trap stops.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting Guide

ProblemCauseSolution
Condensate is not discharged1. Blockage in a discharge hole of valve seat.
2. Screen is clogging.
3. Breakage from abnormal pressure rising (freezing/water hammer).
1. Disassemble and clean.
2. Disassemble and clean.
3. Replace the trap.
Improper discharge1. Operating differential pressure is not high enough.
2. Screen is clogging.
3. Tendency of steam locking.
1. Examine inlet/outlet pressure.
2. Disassemble and clean.
3. Examine the piping system.
Continuous blow-out1. Foreign matter stuck to disc and valve seat.
2. Scratches or wear on the disc or valve seat.
3. Exceeding permissible back pressure.
4. Pressure is less than minimum operating pressure.
1. Disassemble and clean.
2. Replace the parts.
3. Examine the piping system.
4. Replace with an appropriate trap.
Steam leakage1. Leakage between body and disc cover, or body and cap.
2. Breakage from abnormal pressure rising.
1. Replace gasket if damaged, or tighten disc cover/cap.
2. Replace the trap.

Assembly Note

Take care that the disc has a direction. If the direction is upside down, steam or condensate will be continuously discharged.
