The Yoshitake TS-5V, TS-5S, and TS-5BP thermostatic steam traps feature a compact stainless steel design, operating below saturated steam temperature to prevent steam leakage.

The Yoshitake TS-5V, TS-5S, and TS-5BP are thermostatic capsule-type steam traps designed for efficient condensate removal in steam lines. Featuring a compact and lightweight stainless steel construction, these traps operate at a temperature lower than the saturated steam temperature, ensuring zero steam leakage. They require no adjustment and are highly suitable for tracing lines, food equipment, medical equipment, and laundry equipment. The TS-5BP model is additionally equipped with a manual blow valve to significantly shorten initial start-up times.

Make sure to consider the back pressure (outlet pressure) in selecting discharge capacity. The discharge capacity of a trap varies based on the difference between the inlet and the outlet pressures (the working differential pressure). To select a nominal size, secure a safety factor of 2 or more. If you need a steam trap with a capacity of 50 kg/h, a product with a maximum capacity of 100 kg/h or more should be selected.

WARNING
Use the product with an outlet pressure of 0.4 MPa or less. The capsule may be damaged when high pressure is applied at room temperature, resulting in malfunction.
At start-up, there is a gap between the valve disc and the valve seat, and the trap is open. In this state, condensate and air are discharged.

When steam flows into the trap, the pressure inside the capsule increases due to the heat of the steam and pushes down the diaphragm. This closes the gap between the valve disc and the valve seat, and thus the trap closes.

When the steam temperature drops and condenses, the pressure inside the capsule decreases, and thus the diaphragm is pushed up and the trap opens to discharge condensate. The trap repeats closing and opening according to the inflow of steam and condensate.

The TS-5BP efficiently discharges condensate and air at start-up when its handle is turned counterclockwise to open the blow valve. Close the blow valve after condensate is discharged by turning the handle fully clockwise.

Piping Guidelines:
DANGER
To discharge condensate to the atmosphere, lead the outlet to a safe place where there is no possibility of physical damage even when condensate blows out. Failure to follow this notice may result in scalds or injury.
WARNING
Daily Inspection (once a day):
| To be inspected | Inspection criteria |
|---|---|
| Condensate discharge condition | Condensate is discharged smoothly. |
| Outside leakage | No outside leakage of condensate or steam. |
Periodic Inspection (once a year for TS-5S and TS-5BP):
| To be inspected | Inspection criteria |
|---|---|
| Sealing surfaces of capsule and valve seat | No damage or abrasion, and no foreign substance stuck. |
| Shape of capsule | No deformation or damage on capsule. |
| Dirt on screen | No clogging on screen. |
(Note: TS-5V cannot be disassembled.)
| Trouble | Cause | Remedy |
|---|---|---|
| Condensate or air is not discharged | Screen is clogged. | Disassemble or disconnect from pipe and clean it. |
| Capsule is deformed or damaged. | Replace the part. | |
| Capsule is damaged due to abnormal pressure rise (freezing, water hammer). | Replace the part. Use within working pressure range. | |
| Steam locking occurs. | Change the piping system layout. | |
| Continuous blowout | Foreign substance stuck between capsule and valve seat. Scale accumulated. | Close stop valve, allow to cool, then blow the product. If leakage remains, disassemble and clean. |
| Capsule and/or valve seat is damaged, abraded, or deformed. | Replace the parts. | |
| Discharge capacity is insufficient. | Replace with a model of enough capacity. | |
| Blow valve leaks (TS-5BP). | Close blow valve by turning handle clockwise. If leakage does not stop, replace product. | |
| Steam leakage | Body and cover are loose (TS-5V). | Retighten body and cover. If leakage continues, replace product. |
| Bolts are loose (TS-5S, TS-5BP). | Replace cover gasket. Retighten bolts with proper torque. | |
| Leakage due to abnormal pressure rise. | Replace product. Use within working pressure range. |
